It’s the music of leather on willow
As the ball leads the men in the chase
It’s the sun on her hair on the pillow
As the sun paints fresh gold on her face
It is not being cold in the rain
Although sunburn can be quite a pain …

It’s an ice-cream that melts on your tongue
As you walk hand in hand in the park
And the knowledge you’re still fairly young
When she’s still by your side in the dark
It’s a picnic with scones by a stream
And a doze in the sun with a dream

It’s the girls from the office next door
Who are dressed in far less than seems right
To a bad tempered joyless old bore
Who’d love to deprive us the sight
It’s the proms at the Royal Albert Hall
And a stroll on the top of a wall

It’s a candyfloss snack by the sea
At the end of a beautiful day
It’s lamb chops and a nice cup of tea
At a pub that we passed on the way
One shy of a dozen thoughts why
The summer’s my season to fly
