Patchwork of my life

I was born a clean white bedspread without patterns on each side
And my life has been a kind of quilting bee
Every day another section from the fabric life supplied
Went towards the patchwork quilt I see as me

There is stitch-work by my mother, and my father found the thread
That my friends could use to add each extra square
And I’ll keep on adding textures till the day I wake up dead
There are blocks within my quilt from everywhere

Every word I read is in there, every poem every book
All my friends, and yes my lovers, gave their art
There are parts that I keep hidden, at the rest you’re free to look
Or sit down with me and add another part

All of us are busy quilting adding depth to who we are
Making art to show the tourists at eternity’s bazaar
