Play the Game

Play the Game

Some silly fools ignore the rules, but they will never win
It isn’t sport if you’re prepared to cheat
They puff their chests and beat their breasts to make a mighty din
A lame attempt to hide their mute defeat
It’s better if you’re winning but that’s not the only aim
In life, in love, in everything you have to play the game

“A little pill can’t end the thrill, I have to finish first”
That type of cry is heard around the World
A medal’s meant to celebrate the best and not the worst
You should be proud to see your flag unfurled
But golfers who make one mistake believe they’ll die of shame
In life, in love, in everything you have to play the game

Why would you play with those who stray you cannot prove a thing
If all they do is practice subterfuge
No running race can match the pace of jet planes on the wing
And rocket sleds will always beat the luge
Whatever way they choose to cheat the most they’ll gain is shame
In life, in love, in everything you have to play the game
