Proximity

Proximity

Four thousand miles of in between is just a step, no more
And every night I feel you fall asleep.
The best of friends are everywhere, and you are just next door,
I know I can be with you with a leap.
I could stretch my hand to touch you but I have no need to try
For we’ll always be together while the stars are in the sky

I spoke to you this afternoon and you’ll kiss me goodnight
The miles of in between are never there
To see you clearly I just sigh and then turn out the light
You are the friend who’s with me everywhere
Please hold me while I’m sleeping and you listen to each line
I’ll hold you tight inside your dreams, you’ll do the same in mine.

So far away and yet so near, I hear you in my mind
Your voice is just an echo of the breeze
We walk on different pathways yet I feel you close behind
I love the way you’re hiding just to tease
Sweet dreams my next door neighbour who’s four thousand miles away
In my heart I am beside you and I see you every day

Author notes
The reason for writing this is first being too stupid to lie down and go to
sleep and secondly a Khalil Gibran quote:-
A friend who is far away is sometimes much nearer than one who is at hand. Is
not the mountain far more awe-inspiring and more clearly visible to one passing
through the valley than to those who inhabit the mountain?
