Rainfall in the Night

The only sound worth hearing’s gentle rainfall in the night,
As clouds obscure the Moon and all her stars;
Without your rhythmic breathing there’s no happiness in sight,
The life I crave stays locked behind its bars.
No silent fox patrolling and no owls or darting bats,
No breeze to shake a whisper from the trees;
I’m left to dream of laughter, wrapped in silly pointless chats,
As all our words are lost upon the breeze.
My heart beats summer mornings, eating ice-cream, arm in arm,
While flocks of pointless pigeons take to flight,
Your smile fills me with music and your arms recite a charm,
But all I hear is rainfall in the night.
