He’d left her as an eager boy
But now his eyes were old
The time has come to re-employ
The gifts she thought were sold

Long years without a tender touch
Just words to touch her heart
She now sees eyes that saw so much
They tear her soul apart

But day by day and kiss by kiss
He starts to understand
That terror can’t stand up to bliss
Beneath a lover’s hand

He daren’t look up as aircraft pass
And thunder makes him shake
His confidence now made of glass
Is far too quick to break

Old friends return, though far too few
Their future seems assured
The skills he lost are learnt anew
His hurts are slowly cured

As arm in arm and year by year
She helps him find his feet
And when the end starts drawing near
He’s once again complete.
