Remembrance

Just two minutes every year
To stand in silence, shed a tear
For those who fought so we live free
To those who died for you and me
It doesn’t matter where you are
Near to home or travelled far
Two short minutes aren’t a lot
For those blown up or drowned or shot
Some were bravest of the brave
All of them their future gave
They now have no more to give
So in their place we have to live
Author notes
At 11am on the 11th of November 1918 what was until then the most devastating
conflict in history ended in an armistice. Since then much of the world has
held two minutes silence on that day each year in remembrance of those who have
died in uniform fighting for a better world. I choose to mark this
appropriately each year and invite anyone reading this poem to join me.
