Resurrection

I saw the flash and heard the mighty roar
The oak was split and branches fell aside
The blackened trunk raised fingers to the world
And life went on exactly as before
The winter came and winds tore at the oak
Yet broken as it was it would not yield
So strong it saw a gale as but a breeze
A blackened stem of lifeless useless steel
Yet come the spring a miracle occured
Though few some twigs showed green and vibrant leaves
The hollow trunk gave shelter to a zoo
No lightning strike could end this titans reign
Though fates may split his heart and tear his soul
An honest man will know he’s always whole

The poem originally finished with the following unrhymed “couplet”, the whole
is a style I have borrowed from a friend no longer on AP.
