He left her with a lily every morning
At evening he would often bring a rose
A passion flower would be a subtle warning
That he would be collecting what she owes

Each weekend he would sport a white carnation
And give her pinks to wear pinned to her hat
The garden fed his rich imagination
She never could receive too much of that

She thought of him as father of the freesia
The bunches that he brought her every day
Although she thought a pansy would be easier
He grew her lots of orchids anyway

Like honeysuckle they were twined together
He tended all her needs in any weather
