Roses for a Valentine

To spite the world that tears a love apart
We share the words that bridge unfriendly seas
The soothing balm that fights a sad disease
A dozen roses hold a tender heart
The flash of red you showed me from the start
Returned in blooms from Cupid’s sacred bed
Supplying fuel to keep the passions fed
A dozen roses hold a tender heart
So many men must trust the florist’s art
To write the lines they have no chance to say
Aspiring Romeos for just one day
A dozen roses hold a tender heart
To spite the world that tears a love apart
A dozen roses hold a tender heart
A nervous fool who waits till pleasure shows
Becomes a king when wrapped inside her eyes
All expectation lost in sweet surprise
Two cheeks that blush the colour of a rose
A love is born wherever beauty grows
And tended well becomes a thriving bush
As pretty as a dancer’s tidy tush
Two cheeks that blush the colour of a rose
The scene is set and now emotion flows
Through damns that burst, exploded by a kiss
The evidence that roses promise bliss
Two cheeks that blush the colour of a rose
A nervous fool who waits till pleasure shows
Two cheeks that blush the colour of a rose
