Saluting the Sunlight

The Sun is here to greet another day
When she is up there’s always something new
The cares of night are forced to run away

A pair of Robins want to dance and play
It seems for them the spring is right on cue
The Sun is here to greet another day

In golden rays depression’s held at bay
The sky may be the only source of blue
The cares of night are forced to run away

On cloudy days it seems that life is grey
This morning though such miseries are few
The Sun is here to greet another day

While late at night our demon dreams hold sway
When sunlight reigns no bleakness can accrue
The cares of night are forced to run away

Perhaps this time she will decide to stay
That happy smile that every lover knew
The Sun is here to greet another day
The cares of night are forced to run away

Author notes
A Villanelle (a metrical and formal poem rhymed A1,b,A2 a,b,A1 a,b,A2 a,b,A1
a,b,A2 a,b,A1,A2 traditionally in iambic pentameter as in this example. A1 and
A2 are repeated lines, I do not always make exact repeats but I have here.)
