Saturday nights

I went of to Tesco, for something to eat
Got a lift with my daughter, came home on my feet
Saturday night’s not the highlight of life
When you’ve four grown up kids and one grown up wife
Susan is watching some dance on the box
Curled up on a chair with a big box of chocs
World of Warcraft has Ray in a world of his own
And Frances is working so her patients won’t moan
I’ve done some sorting, and some clearing up
Fancied some tea so I’ve made all a cup
Saturday night’s not the highlight of life
When you’ve four grown up kids and one grown up wife
I’m feeling fed up, though I’ve no idea why
I’m sure I’ll recover and I don’t think I’ll cry
I’ll sit myself down and type out a verse
And think to myself how life could be worse
There’s a lot I should do, but I’m tired and flat
So after this writing I’ll just do this and that
Saturday night’s not the highlight of life
When you’ve four grown up kids and one grown up wife
My dream alter-ego seems away for the night
I hope that he’s treating his lady friend right
And when later on I’m asleep in the dark
He’ll tell me all about what they did in the park
For the me in my dreams, some things go rather well
And he’ll cheer me up with the tales he can tell
Saturday night’s the highlight of his life
He doesn’t have kids and he’s more than one wife
