Seasonal Observations

“Just once a year”, they say, it comes along,
But really that’s an optimistic lie
Although we know the shops have got it wrong
They like to start the season in July.

September dawns and trees and cards are there,
With “special sales” and “buy the latest toys”.
An ersatz joy their customers don’t share,
In autumn Slade are just a nasty noise.

But when it’s close I’m Christmas through and through,
“Goodwill to all” could be my middle name.
Humanity will put its best on view
To prove that life’s a truly worthwhile game.

Two weeks to go and I have this to say —
I’ve got a Christmas waistcoat on today!

For non-Brits “Slade” are a Glam Rock band from the Wolverhampton in the
English Midlands who sang “Merry Christmas everybody http://www.youtube.com/

Happy Christmas all!

And today’s waistcoat is black with 1950s style cartoonish bikini clad models
holding classic gift wrapped boxes
