She should know

His friendly face allays her fears
She knew him well so long ago
Though they’ve not met in many years
His is a story she should know
He fought against their prejudice
They said such love he should not show
I know that I should tell you this
His is a story she should know
They strung him up inside this room
Her father let the hatred grow
The racist mob spelt out his doom
His is a story she should know
His friendly face allays her fears
His is a story she should know
And now tonight he’s back in town
His vengeance blacker than a crow
A smile that’s broader than a clown
His is a story she should know
Her father was a crooked judge
Who loved his daughter head to toe
This blameless ghoul now bears a grudge
His is a story she should know
She thought she’d met an old school friend
But now she’s in a dark tableau
His ghostly hands will spell her end
His is a story she should know
And now tonight he’s back in town
His is a story she should know
The morning sees a dreadful scene
A young reporter Jess Monroe
Will ask the judge about what’s been
His is a story she should know
The judge is weeping for his loss
He’d never hurt a fly although
Such slaughter makes him very cross
His is a story she should know
The ghost avenged an ancient crime
Corrupt men reap the sins they sow
A vision from another time
A tragic story he should know
The morning sees a dreadful scene
This is a story we should know
