Shipwrecked

I sink before the sunrise on the dawn of even now
And I never knew the way to be just me
I have wrecked my sturdy schooner on the rocks of asking how
Since the look out on my masthead cannot see
When I started my adventure in the early hours of then
I was far from knowing where I would strike land
Now I’m lost and going nowhere ’til I float my ship again
And I find a pilot who can understand
There are whirlpools in the races where the shipping has to pass
And the deadly traps are hidden far below
But I know that I am drowning at the bottom of my class
Since I’ve lost the only talents I could show
When I’m washed up from the waters on the beaches of your love
I leave footprints that can tell you where I hide
So when you come out looking from your eerie high above
You can track me as I walk along the tide
In the caves that line the cliff-face that protects you from the sea
We may find a little nest where we can stay
We’ll be warm and dry and cosy in a home for you and me
So we’ll settle down and love our lives away
