Still Here With Me

We don’t belong entirely to ourselves,
Each heart you touch is changed by what you do.
Our stories fill the books on other’s shelves
And other eyes will read them after you.
It seems so long ago that first we met,
And yet it only seems like yesterday,
So many words, and none that I regret,
I hear them still though you are far away.
You cannot leave, I have not let you go,
But I could never wish to see you chained
On some far beach I’ll watch you ebb and flow
And mermaid’s dreams will keep me entertained.
Although you’re gone you’re still a part of me,
And when the Moon sees you she sets me free.
