Summer Teases

Summer Teases

When summer breezes tease a butterfly,
Beneath a softly swaying sycamore,
And roses dance as pretty girls go by;
These are the lazy days that I adore.

When wagtails bob across the tousled grass,
Where worshippers can praise their god, the sun
And I can spot the shapes in clouds that pass
These are the days that prove that life is fun.

It’s just a dream, but walking hand in hand
Is how we spend these perfect August days.
It’s on these walks that August nights are planned,
In smuggled thoughts and mimed communiques.

Until my phone unwinds the reverie
And breaks the dream that holds you close to me.
