Summer Weather

With rumbles of thunder and drummings of hail
The weather announces her mood;
I wouldn’t object to the fury and scale,
If I hadn’t nipped out for food.
The gashes the lightning has ripped in the sky
Aren’t nearly so pretty with rain in your eye.

The morning began with the sun beating down,
The train was a sauna on wheels,
But when we reached lunchtime I thought I would drown,
While hailstones crunched under my heels.
Now back in the office surrounded by steam
My walk for refreshment was not a great scheme.

With cricket and tennis both filling the stands,
We all knew the rain clouds would call;
It’s summer’s best trick in this wettest of lands,
The chance of a tan’s rather small
But whether we’re headed for deluge or sun,
The strange English summer’s the season for fun!
