Taking Refuge

It’s often hard to be where people know you
And sympathise with all you have to feel,
You must return the love they want to show you,
Whilst in your heart you doubt that life is real.
When doors you want to open won’t admit you
But every other door you see’s ajar,
The contrast and the pain are bound to hit you,
Alone in seas of friends is where you are.
But far away their artless love supports you
And you can cry, or not, it’s up to you.
A change of scene and hard-work soon re-sorts you.
And lets you love the friends you always knew.
Though distance soothes the pain of day-to-day
Inside our hearts our friends aren’t far away.
