Tea (A Parody of Leisure by W H Davies)

What would life be if, suddenly,
I couldn’t have a cup of tea.
I couldn’t taste that perfect drink
Whenever I sat down to think
Nor sit and sip, my only sin,
When England, sadly, didn’t win.
I would not know what I could do
If tragedy should fall on you.
How could I soothe your tear-wracked heart;
Without a brew to play the part
Of oil upon the raging main,
Until you saw the Sun again.
.
How would I ever celebrate
A piece of news that I deemed great,
If teapot and the stuff itself
Had disappeared from off my shelf –
A poor life this if, suddenly
I couldn’t have a cup of tea …

With apologies to W H Davies, I’m sure you can find his “Leisure” on allpoetry
but it was much easier on the old site using oldpoetry.com but https://
allpoetry.com/Leisure might work for you …
