In the middle of a moment when I found I couldn’t know,
You were certain as a zealot with his pedantry on show,
But unlike a fool-led purist who is always in the wrong
Your advice was what I needed and your voice was like a song.
When I thought I had the answers you could see the other side,
Then you gave me all your blessings and the freedom to decide.
You are there when you are needed, but you seldom interfere;
Even clear across the planet I am sure I’d feel you near.
When the time arrives for parting I will never be the same,
You gave me the best of guidance and the way to play the game.
I will never be the captain of the planets greatest team
But with thanks to you, my parents, I can face the world and beam!
