There’ll Come a Time

There’ll come a time when it is right to die,
When I have run as far as I’ve a mind.
I hope I’ll be beneath a Moon-blessed sky,
So she can watch me leave the World behind.
When I have seen my children to their best
And in their turn, their children take the stage.
I’ll settle down and put my dreams to rest,
Surrendering to unforgiving age.
I do not want to live another way,
No astral plane and no Elysian field;
This is my place and I’ll have had my day,
Before it’s time to fold my cards and yield.
This life’s enough, I’m who I hoped to be,
In love with you and dreaming poetry.
