I’ll tell you a tale about Merlin the Cat
He’s keen on his dinner and frankly he’s fat
He likes eating dreamies, he loves catching mice
You show him a box he’s inside in a trice
He’s one half a Birman the rest is ragdoll
And he’s much better looking then some gangster’s moll
The best thing of all about Merlin the cat
Is he loves my daughter, and there’s nowt wrong with that!
When Merlin’s at home it is clear who’s in charge
He’ll stroll round the room and then make himself large
Plonked down in the middle where all there will see
He’s making a statement and that’s “This is Me!”
“I’m moody, magnificent, proudly myself
(But if there are children I’ll hide on a shelf)
This house isn’t much but it’s mine while I’m here
Not making a fuss I just want some things clear”
But I’ll forgive Merlin the raccoon-like cat
‘Cause he loves my daughter and there’s nowt wrong with that!
He wonders why she could like chocolate not meat
And why would she think that a cake is a treat
It’s wasteful, he thinks, to serve fruit with the cream
But if there’s spare chicken he’s living the dream!
He sometimes does tricks if he thinks that they’ll pay
And sit on your lap, if your lap’s in his way.
He hunts in the gardens he begs for more food
He thinks to ignore him is callous and rude
But Merlin’s a star, a magnificent cat
And he loves my daughter and there’s nowt wrong with that!
