Time ticking by

turning forty
was a non-event
I had always known I would
and when it happened
I hardly noticed

forty two
was a shock
suddenly I had
completed
half my working life
So I changed career

forty six
having lost a fortune
I never saw
I lost a company
and a job

forty eight
and thirty six
years too late
I showed someone else
my poetry

fifty
maybe now
I can think what
I want to do with my life
