To a lovely young lady.

When I was just a boy of sixteen years
My poetry I kept as just for me
I think that this was due to manly fears
My real feelings were not for you to see
And so it stayed until a year ago
But now I know that poetry is real
So I would hope you put yourself on show
And let the world know what it is you feel
For me I hope you like my simple verse
A sonnet penned to show that men can write
I could have written “hot” or even worse
To send my readers heading out of sight
But here I am laid out in front of you
I hope you think my poetry will do
