To Birr

In the centre of the island lies the little town of Birr
Round the castle where the Parsons still reside
There are Gothic fronted buildings that are picturesque “for sure”
The Leviathan is standing tall outside
On this half forgotten byway all the universe looked down
Except when Ireland’s weather laid a blanket on the town!

The Leviathan was for many years the largest telescope in the world, but not in
an ideal place to study the stars!
Birr is a small town almost exactly in the centre of the island of Ireland
where Birr and “for sure” are perfect rhymes!
