Tranquility

The children have fallen asleep
The sun has run off to the West
The shadows have started to creep
Where nature has gone to her rest
The dogs have gone in for the night
The birds are at roost in the trees
While stars shed a shimmering light
There isn’t a murmur of breeze
My glass is now empty of wine
The bottle put down by the door
My feet trace a virtual line
The route to my bed ‘cross the floor
Your hair is a halo of gold
Laid out round your innocent face
You’re witnessing stories untold
As dreams settle into their place
And now is my favourite time
There’s peace everywhere I can see
Adrift in an ocean of rhyme
There’s nowhere that I’d rather be
Author notes
The dogs and the children live next door, but the rest is rather made up I’m
afraid, you don’t get a lot of silence in a London suburb!
Prompt: “Write me a silence”
