In a clearing, in the forest, on that perfect day in spring,
So much beauty overshadowed as my heart began to sing.
On your own amidst your sisters, in your eyes I saw the night.
I was lost to all distraction drinking waves of pure delight.
Could not hear embarrassed giggles, just the beating of my heart,
From the moment that I saw you something new was doomed to start.
You were bathed in lily water, I was drowning in your dreams,
When you spoke I heard the laughter of a thousand mountain streams.
As I helped you from the water all of heaven was revealed,
With your sisters’ gaze averted to your lips I had to yield.
When a man has kissed an angel, or a nymph has won his soul,
There is nothing but her favour that can make his spirit whole.
On that perfect day in springtime, in that stream fed, sunlit pool,
I was changed from man the hunter into man the lovestruck fool.
