Tread Softly My Darling

And if I could I’d offer you the velvet skies of night,
Bejewelled with half a billion stars and secret sparkling light.
I’d see you wrapped in nature’s greens with flowers in your hair,
And watch in silent rapture as you strode across the air.
I’ll never see you dressed to suit the way you look to me
The finest painting ever wrought, in peerless poetry.
Each carefree word you utter is a song inside my heart,
Each time you leave I suffer as my mind is torn apart,
You make me and you break me in so many little ways
You’re a rose in golden sunlight, I’m the background in the haze.
I am only held together where your love has stitched my seams;
So step softly when you’re walking, you are treading on my dreams …
