She walked away without a backward look
Pretending that her cheeks weren’t wet with tears
She left her heart abandoned on a hook
A precious gem unseen for many years

He’d promised her the moon and all the stars
But gave away a far more precious gift
Investing all his time in downbeat bars
His treasure ship allowed to simply drift

But can you bid adieu to love that’s died
A wiser mind may find what she has lost
Her heart will only take its place inside
When someone else decides to pay the cost

A decoration left for all to see
May one day grace its owner’s Christmas tree
