True love!

When flannelled fools set out to play the game
The gods invented to display their art
Four days before apportioning the blame
And knowing who would take the winning part

When sun is streaming on a cricket ground
And bowlers strive to stem the batsmen’s flow
That is the place where I am often found
Where else in summer would you wish to go?

The summer sport that soothes the savage breast
Where guile and skill outweigh the strength of brutes
I’m sure that it provides man’s sternest test
Integrity and fairness are its roots

The Oval’s where my thoughts are bound to stray
Whenever it’s an English Summer’s day!
