With ton-up ghosts forever riding by
The sound of engines revving everywhere
And petrol clouds left hanging in the air
The Ace Cafe where bikers come to die
Machinery to gladden any eye
With all night rock and all day bacon rolls
A transport cafe where angels lost their souls
The Ace Cafe where bikers come to die
Now back beneath the North West London sky
And home to cars and bikes of every age
Those ancient rockers still appear on stage
The Ace Cafe where bikers come to die
With ton-up ghosts forever riding by
The Ace Cafe where bikers come to die
Author notes
On my way to and from work I frequently pass “The Ace Cafe” famous through the
fifties and sixties as an all night transport cafe on the North Circular Road
where bikers came to boast of doing the ton, rock and roll was live on stage at
any hour and all were always welcome. It went downhill fast in the 70s and
closed in the 80s I think, but now it has been back in almost all its glory for
the last ten years or so, hosting numerous car and bike clubs, and some bloody
loud music.
It is still most famous for bikes, as it has been for seventy years!
Pronunciation guide, it is the “Ace Café” with the é pronounced but the “Ace
Cafe” is a transport caff!
