The best is yet to be

The best is yet to be

The years that I’ve lived have been happy and full
There’s little I’ve seen I regret
But since I met you what’s to come has had pull
A future I cannot forget

I never expected to tumble again
I want to see more than before
Tomorrow I’m going to come in from the rain
You’ve shown me what life should be for

If I threw my challenges into the ring
The prize I would strive for is you
You showed me that nobody’s too old to sing
And made me see everything’s new

Forgive me my impudence,  born in your eyes
I want you but do you want me?
Tomorrow can now be a pleasant surprise
Don’t tell me I’m waiting to see!

Author notes
Inspired by

Grow old along with me, the best is yet to be.

The opening lines of Rabbi Ben Ezra by Robert Browning.

And I’m not fond of the rest of the poem, just those two lines
