The Growing Pains of Pets

Postman brought a parcel for us
Cute and cuddly brontasaurus
Fed it carrots day and nightly
Soon it grew quite large and sprightly
Gave it then a richer diet
(Cocoa beans soon caused a riot)
All these extra cal’ries flowing
Kept out brontosaurus growing
Years went by and she got larger
Field of wheat a day to charge her
Other problems worse than that
Our lovely house is now a “flat”!
Author notes
My original poem didn’t meet the rules for this contest, I don’t often write in
trochaic tetrameter but needs must …
(except the final lines …)
(I assume that most North Americans know that over here an apartment is called
a flat)
