The heart of Clare

She has a smile that every man would share
With just a hint that he had best beware
So many men decided they would dare
To take a trip no matter what the fare

Her eyes enticed them in from everywhere
Although too few knew what they should prepare
She trapped the poor unwary in her lair
And took the most from them that they could bear

I too considered her a prize so rare
But thought perhaps I’d need a little flair
I went about the task with lots of care
Until she begged that we become a pair

And now the jealous fools can only stare
For I’m the man who won the heart of Clare

Author notes
A classical sonnet in form and meter, with two stanzas setting up the tale a
volta and a resolution in a closing couplet, but monorhymed.
