The heroes of my father’s generation
Were forced to fight for human liberty
Assaulted by the greatest degradation
That any man was ever doomed to see
That evil men can poison national thinking
Has always been a stain upon our race
Across the world too many men were sinking
Into a Hell too terrible to face
The Japanese thought Chinese ripe for slaughter
And killed too many million just for sport
The Germans thought a Jew was less than water
And weak-willed men absorbed the lies they taught
The allies were not pure, that’s clearly true
But fought to build a world for me and you.
