Though all the world thinks I should let it be
And leave you to your fate for crimes unsaid.
I gave my word that you would never see
Me turn aside until the day I’m dead.

My armour does not shine with holy fire
My steed is not a charger clad in white
Within my soul there burns a fierce desire
And I will stand beside you in a fight

The only weapon I will need is this
I’ll rhyme for you against a million souls
In payment I will only take one kiss
That victory the sweetest of my goals

My lady whom I loved when first I saw
If I’ve your love what need of any more
Author notes
This was a first attempt at a sonnet for a contest by Tarja to the prompt “Even
if you end up as the world’s enemy. I’ll…I’ll be your knight”

Just as a not in English English “Saw” and “more” are perfect rhymes, this is
apparently not so in all varieties of American English.
