The last rose

A sleeping rose is still a perfect bloom
A beauty standing proud amidst the weeds
And though it’s night you see her in the gloom
The only light when happiness recedes
A tender rose may bow before the breeze
But she will still attract a lover’s gaze
Another bud may stumble to its knees
But desert roses bloom for many days
A hardy rose will rise above the storm
And shrug off all the worst that life can throw
Her petals guard a heart that’s always warm
A friend in need that I am glad to know
A Birthday wish for you my Texas rose
The only beauty left where trouble grows
