The Longest Word in English

The longest word in English isn’t quite what people think,
No chemical for poisoning, or flavouring a drink,
No silly sound that Disney used, no foolish complex term
Like floccinauci…ojaflop that makes a teacher squirm.
Don’t look to complex endings to extend a shorter stem,
Or search through German imports to retrieve an unknown gem.
It won’t be found in Latin or from those who study Greek
Instead the word is known by all who ever learned to speak
To find the longest English word employ more subtle wiles,
A mile between two esses means the longest word is SMILES!
Author notes
The riddle and the answer are both stated in the poem!
