The middle-aged poet

It seemed to me that love had passed me by
That I would never feel that thrill again
My spirit wouldn’t have a cause to fly
Or plunge me down in agonies of pain
I think I had accepted this would be
Slipping quietly through my middle age
I should never let my fancies wander free
And never throw my passions on a page
And then I found that others loved my verse
They thought that I had something left to give
My future now did not look so much worse
I’d found I had a reason still to live
A special lady showed me how to see
So now my verse is written on AP

No this is not really me!
