The distant pat of bat on ball
Half heard, half seen through half closed eyes
Quite undisturbed by batsman’s call
And unaware of fielders’ cries
With deckchaired crowd all sat in place
The game proceeds at gentle pace
An afternoon of booze and snooze
Who cares which team will win or lose?
