The other side

A coal black heart has asked me for a shock
To rip away the comfort that she sees
I’ll place romance and love upon the block
And chop sweet innocence off at the knees
The truth is life is dark and full of pain
There are no silver boxes in the clouds
I’ll never welcome happiness again
but live the rest of life encased in shrouds
As summer ebbs away to winter’s hold
And sunshine flees these shores to other lands
I’ll never get to win my share of gold
Just watch my dreams turn real in other hands
Descend to darkest depths then turn away
There are no happy endings here today
