The price you have to pay

My swallow has told me it’s tea-time
But I haven’t got any milk
Without any tea there’s no me time
The taste of it’s smoother than silk
I’d dunk in a nice ginger biscuit
And smile as I savour the taste
A second? I think I shall risk it
And not think of inches and waist
But first I shall have to go shopping
For milk and for biscuits and such
A cake with an over-sweet topping
The sort that we all love too much
So now I had better stop writing
Before all the goodies are sold
The tea is so very inviting
That I don’t mind braving the cold!
