The Railway Baron\’s lament

The railway would be on time
And everything would be sublime
All save for one small caveat
What was that foolish navvy at?

He worked from dawn to dusk all day
And spent his nights in sleep and play
His muscle power could be banked on
But he’d less brains than many plankton

He drilled the holes to set the charge
And knew the bang would be quite large
But rather than a warning siren
He shouted out a verse by Byron

Now all of us are being sued
Our sorry hides have been pursued
We deafened many folks or something
By leaving safety to a dumb thing!
