The Sleepless Heart

One cannot sleep when sleep’s besieged by dreams
That tear your heart and rob you of your mind,
Sweet mists of love give way to sulph’rous steams
In such a state true rest is hard to find.
The silver Moon and rolling greens and greys
Once filled my head before the sky turned gold;
Now chaos lurks throughout an endless maze
And demons dance through fields I once controlled.
One day, I know, true beauty will return,
That choirs of stars will sing again for me.
However hard the lessons are to learn
I must believe that life is poetry.
There’ll come a time when I find nights are blessed
With easy dreams and hours of blissful rest!
