The vessel of love

The sonnet is the lover’s first recourse,
The sweetest meter crowned with gentle rhyme.
For happiness or to express remorse
The sonnet always seems to be sublime.

The tenderness its subtle lines convey
Wins hearts wherever poetry is read.
Few lovers find a better way to say
The words that none would want to leave unsaid.

In fourteen lines of five iambs apiece,
It tells a tale then sees another side.
The magic of the form will never cease
As long as lovers need a place to hide.

I love this ancient form of poetry,
The sonnet’s song will always speak to me.
