The virus is a cunning beast
Who doesn’t worry in the least
That all his guile and secrecy
Can leave mere men in misery
The common cold and influenza
Bring sneezes to a harsh cadenza
Measles, mumps and chicken pox
Can have us shaking to our socks,
And herpes with its many strains
Holds far too many in its chains.
These tiny germs, not quite alive,
Find many ways that they can thrive
And as they do so with a will
They always seem to make us ill!
