In the far Sahara desert
In the midst of golden sands
The ancient town of Timbuctoo
Majestically stands
If you travel far beyond it
As you get quite near the sea
You will find a modern village
And they call it Timbucthree
In the sub-Saharan forest
Since before when time begun
There has been a stately city
And they called it Timbucone
