Along the beach and under Georgia’s skies
She walked along and held her lover’s hand
A cruel world reduced that love to sighs
A fate no-one will ever understand

Young lives dismayed by acts of men that hate
Who thought to tear apart all chance of peace
The victims of the taunts of cruel fate
Now know the weight of sadness without cease

Our heroine will never be held down
Submitting to the whims of other wills
A smile always beats a bitter frown
Provides a shield against the worst of ills

A poet with a perfect grasp of phrase
Looks out across her marsh on winter days
