Unrequited

The winter sun that kissed your cheek today
Awakened me from dreams of soft embrace
Reflected on the pillow where you lay
The golden sun had gilded all your face
From all restraint of style your hair falls free
Like waves that lap the longest whitest beach
To have such beauty lying next to me
With all my dreams held well within my reach
Alas the beds we sleep on are not near
Another saw your face in gilding light
And though I’ll always think of you as dear
To speak those words in public is not right
So I will just content myself in rhyme
And dream that you’ll be mine in endless time
